Stephanie gives her account of seeing how smalltown governments can be manipulated and outmatched by powerful individuals. Stephanie had been in the area doing a profile piece on Matt Gaetz, but people kept telling her to look at what Mike Huckabee had done in Santa Rosa Beach. During her reporting she found that Mike Huckabee had built his house in a floodplane and through various means was able to build in a place that wasn't supposed to have a house.

Stephanie Mencimer of Mother Jones Magazine talks about Mike Huckabee suing Walton County for what amounted to a "taking" during Covid when he couldn't use his beach. For reference, this case was adjudicated and the courts sided with beach front owners that the closing of beaches was unlawful in 2025. This invterview with Stephanie was conducted in 2024.

Lindsey Oxford was vacationing on 30A with her family. She was doing what all parents do, lugging all the kids gear down, trying to get set up, and just finding a place to enjoy the sand and water. However, what she didn't realize was she was sitting about 5 feet too far to the side of an invisible line. Lindsey's experience is all too common, but her response is priceless.

After the passage of HB 631, which effectively created private portions of beach in Santa Rosa Beach, FL, an email surfaced through a records request where Mike Huckabee had sent an email to Sen. Passidomo thanking her from the bill she was working on. This is often cited as "proof" that Mike Huckabee was pulling strings behind the scenes. Whether he was or wasn't, Sen. Passidomo speaks about her experience.

Sen. Passidomo gives her take on beach nourishment. If you don't know what beach nourishment is, it is the act of adding sand back to a beach as it erodes. This helps protect property upland of the water. The interesting fact is when this is done with public money the beach that is added through nourishment becomes public.
